Thanks Matt!

One of my junior athletes, Matt Gaby, in the local news...
Matt is a huge talent and you can expect to see a lot more of him as he gets older (and faster!). He was Triathlon Tasmania's most Improved Junior over the 2010/2011 season and has been training hard so far this winter. Keep up the good work Matt!

Advocate Sports Awards

The annual Advocate Sports Awards were held in Burnie last night. There were 48 nominations over a wide range of sports and it so so fantastic to see the coast producing such a high level and depth of talent. I was a Top Ten Finalist for the 3rd year in a row. Congratulations to winner Amy Cure (Cycling).

Down Time...

The life of a triathlete is often challenging. Juggling training, recovery, work and a hint of a social life is time consuming so it's always nice to have a bit of time when everything's not happening at once! Since a disappointing performance at the Cairns Challenge in June I've been enjoying some time away from training and racing. A holiday in the sun was most enjoyable with a few days in Port Douglas and then travelling the Tablelands in a campervan. That was followed by a few forced days of shopping and drinking coffee with Anthony in Melbourne due to the ash cloud before returning home and pack to work for Term 2. Sleeping in makes the trip over to Burnie seem a bit longer as I can now stay awake for most of it! Weekends are filled with adventures such as skiing at Ben Lomond, Engine training days at the Launy Aquatic Centre,  going to the park with Kate and Jack, baking cookies, cakes and all sorts of yummy treats!
I'm staying fit too by attending CCTMs training sessions and the Training Fix's boxing sessions!! So much fun to be had...............

Triathlon Tasmania Awards

The annual TT Dinner was held in Launceston last Saturday night and I was presented with the Female Athlete of the Year Award, an award that I am extremely proud of. I am often asked why I don't move somewhere more conducive to triathlon training but to be honest I think I am already there. Despite being cold and wet in winter and having to travel across the Bass Strait to get to most races, Tassie offers me endless training options. The Ulverstone Swim Team is a great group to swim with, a outdoor 50m pool through summer and an indoor 25m in winter, Triff at Latrobe has also helped me out this year with some lane space. Cycling is unreal, flat, hills or a combo and traffic in never a concern. Riding with the Crusty's boys has boosted my ability ride at a higher pace and motor pacing with Darryn Pugh is far and above my favourite session. Running along the coast is also enjoyable whether it be during a break at work along the foreshore in Burnie, along the tracks in Devonport or heading out to the trails at Bakers beach. Strength  and conditioning with Dave Beard also gets squeezed into a busy schedule and Pilates has been a welcomed addition this season. I then have a great support network with Danny Redman for massage, Neil Orr for Osteo and Peter Johnston for physio and a pep talk. All of this is put together by my dedicated, long term, local coach Craig Redman. THANKS GUYS!

Congratulations to other award winners:
