I hate the flu!

After a lovely few of weeks of a relaxed training schedule I was all set to start back full training on Monday. But not to be, a nasty case of the flu saw me spend an extra few days in bed instead. I had to miss the challenging Point to Pinnacle which had finally fitted into my schedule but my body had other ideas. Feeling better now tomorrow becomes the official start date!

6th at ITU World LD Champs

On Sunday I had a great race to finish 6th at the ITU Long Distance World Triathlon Championships in Perth. It was a tough race, the 3km swim was in a choppy Swan River followed by an 80km, 4 lap bike course with some nasty head winds and finished with a 20km, 4 lap run in hot conditions. I felt like I swam well, exiting the water about 8th and had a great ride to be 3rd at one point and came off the bike close to the main group of girls who were holding 2nd place, I found the run tough and was 6th across the line and 2nd Aussie (behind Bek Keat). Very pleased!

Hit out at Coles Beach

I enjoyed a nice bit of speed work this morning at the CCTM Duathlon at Coles Beach. A 3km run, 10km bike and 2km run was the shortest session I've had for a while but the intensity knocked me around all the same! It was great to see so many new faces taking on the challenge. 2 weeks out now from World LD Champs!

5 week count down

It's now 5 weeks out from the ITU World Championships in Perth, AUS. This will be my next race and my fist since returning from my Canadian and USA adventure. The sun is finally shining in Tassie and it's great to get out onto the quiet roads for some quality miles.........

Home Sweet Home

I have been home just over a week now and despite being a bit wet and cold it's nice to be home. I've been enjoying catching up and spending time with friends as well as training, triathlon tasmania work and some relief teaching. It feels a bit funny to be so busy again!

A tough day at Lake Stevens

The day started well but gradually went down hill..... it was the Lake Stevens 70.3 in Washington, USA. I got a great start in the swim with clear water and when Michelle Jones (former World Ironman Champion and Olympic Silver Medallist) came past I was able to stay beside her to the turn. On the way back I tucked in behind her and came out of the water in 4th. Onto the bike my game plan was to ride HARD. It was a challenging undulating course. I tried hard but my legs felt awful, I pushed on and got off the bike with a reasonable split - all things considered - in 7th. Then onto the run I had 2 girls near me early on and I was ok for a few kms but then but my legs didn't want to go anymore! My perceived effort increased and my pace decreased, I felt terrible. I kept pushing although moving slowly and made my way through the remainder of the run and to the finish line, crossing in 13th. I'm a little disappointed with the result but pleased I stuck it out!

It's now into Seattle for the day tomorrow and then fly out on Tuesday. I'm really looking forward to arriving home on Thursday!
